The person’s health and safety should be your primary concern. Contact BMCU’s Campus Security immediately.
If someone tells you that they have experienced sexual harassment including: sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, or stalking, first offer them support and assistance. Listen to them and encourage them to seek help and counseling as soon as possible.
Provide the individual with information from this card.
Report the incident to the Title IX Coordinator.
Encourage the victim to use the “Report It” Form to report any sexual harassment.
Contact BMCU’s Campus Security or law enforcement.
Use the “Report It” Form to report any sexual harassment.
Seek medical attention by contacting BMCU’s Dean of Students or the Tippah County Hospital.
Report the incident to the Title IX Coordinator.
Contact the Chair of the Behavioral Intervention Team who will connect you with an experienced counselor or other confidential resources.
Contact parents, relatives or close friends for support.
You do not have to choose a course of action immediately, but consider preserving evidence in a paper bag in case you opt to pursue charges. Evidence might be physical (clothing, bedding, letters, etc.) or electronic (photos, emails, text messages, etc.).
You set the pace.
You have the right to choose to whom you will speak, what resources you will use, what you will say, and when you will say it.
There are many resources available to you, both at the College and in the community.
It is your choice whether to name the other person(s).
Your information will be kept private and only shared with those who “need to know.” We want to take care of you and keep you safe, and we want to make sure that others in the community are safe.
